How the game is played

The Tash-Wala game is a card game that can be played with a regular deck of cards. The aim of the game is to remove all of the cards from your hand, and the first player to do so wins the game.

To start the game, each player is dealt a hand of cards, face down. The player to the left of the dealer starts the game by flipping over their top card and placing it in the middle of the table. The suit of this card (clubs, diamonds, hearts or spades) determines which pile future cards must be placed on. For example, if a player flips over a club, all future cards must be placed on top of clubs already in play. If there are no clubs in play, then that player may choose any other suit to start a new pile with.

When it is their turn, each player must place one of their cards on top of one of the piles in play. Cards of matching rank (e.g., two 8s) may not be placed on top of each other – doing so would result in an instant loss. After placing their card, players draw another card from the deck to replenish their hands back up to five cards. If at any point a player cannot or does not wish to play a card, they instead draw one from the deck and immediately pass their turn to the next player clockwise around the table.

The first player to lose all their cards (or with the lowest count if more than one person runs out at once) is declared the loser, while the last person standing is victorious!
